Artist Bio

Kimberly Fuchek was born in Michigan and has lived all over the country. She currently lives and works in Hawaii. Kimberly is self-taught and started creating art full-time in 2005. She spent several years learning and developing techniques that are an integral part of her style. Most notably the sculptural effects that are a prominent part of her work. She works in acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil and ink.

The artist revels in experimenting with techniques and various media. She is inspired by the natural world and it has a continued presence in her collections. The artist strives to achieve pieces born of inspiration and wants there to be vigor that can only come from savoring a subject. She attempts to incorporate her emotions through color, texture and movement within the composition.

Kimberly’s creative process starts with getting outside and letting her sense of fascination take over. She often goes hiking, to the beach or a botanical garden armed with a camera or a sketchbook. She brings that experience into her studio and begins sketching the composition which is then overlaid with impasto and paint; Bringing her vision to life. The techniques are classical, but the style is contemporary and whimsical. She gleaned inspiration from many artists such as; Rembrandt, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Monet, John Singer Sargent, Pollock, Elizabeth Murray, Jean Michel Basquiat, Susan Rothenberg and Richard Tuttle to name a few.

Kimberly has focused primarily on working with private collectors and local arts fairs. She hopes with the creation of her newest collection of leaving her mark on the arts community just as those who have inspired her have done so admirably.

Artist Statement

My current collection was inspired by life in Hawaii and my enduring love of the water. I wanted to use a lot of new mediums such as; mica, glass beads and Japanese handmade paper and blend them with classic painting techniques to achieve a style all my own. I often create work focused on exploring nature and delighting in its beauty. I strive to express all that captivates me through playfulness, vibrant color, delicate details and heavily impasto sculptural effects. My aim is that the viewer will connect to something in the work and in themselves and lose themselves in the moment. My philosophy regarding interpreting art is that every viewer will have a different experience with a piece based on their own ideas and personality. Your unique perspective as a collector should bring a lot to any art experience and it can’t be replicated within anyone else. I believe you decide what art means to you. Viewing and collecting art should help us connect to ourselves and the world around us. Art often ignites our passions, evokes strong memories and hopefully invigorates our childish enthusiasm. When those sensations are impressed upon me; I guard them fiercely. My motives for making art are simple and pure; I enjoy everything about the process of making art. I am inspired daily to continue to challenge myself to be bold and express my perspective. For long as I can remember art has brought me joy and peace and I enjoy helping others connect to those things within themselves through creativity.
